The ride to the station was always the noisiest. It was usually filled with Lizabeth wishing her brother farewell and good luck over and over again, while their father tried not to lose his patience. More often than not, the ride home for Liz would be spent with a stinging cheek. This year was different, though. This year, she wouldn't be going home; she would be heading through the mystical pillar that served as the entryway into Platform 9 3/4.
Their father ushered them out of his car, which barely fit two people, and was absolutely crammed when they packed their supplies in. Eric helped his little sister with her things, taking them out and packing them onto a rolling cart. The only piece of luggage that proved trouble was their owl. The little thing screeched and flapped about, ceasing only when their father smacked the wire bird cage.
"What're you waitin' for?" grumbled their father. He waved his children off towards their destination, driving off without a look back.
"... where's the train?" asked Liz, looking around the station. Eric smiled mischeviously. He pulled his little sister onto the cart and rushed towards the brick wall. Liz screamed in fear and watched her life flash before her eye before covering them. They emerged, still alive, into Platform 9 3/4.
"That's the train," Eric replied, his smile stretching from ear to ear. Liz just pulled her robe tighter around herself, wishing she could disappear into it.

"Alright. Um, you might not want to talk to my family. They're pricks. But my little sister is nice. You just have to run, right at the barrier between platforms nine and ten," Ryan explained. He pointed as his best friend did just that. "Like Eric." Ryan wondered briefly why his friend hadn't noticed him, then shrugged it off.

Genevieve looked around for the platform with a frown. Then saw somebody go through a wall. Abnormal but... she walked over there, dropping yet another bag.

Nikki gasped as she saw the kid run right through the wal. "Wow!" she cried, just a tad too loudly. "That is so cool!" She couldn't wait to tell mom. "Thanks! I'm Nikki." She added, nodding to him.

Meanwhile, a woman walked briskly through Kings Cross. "Sending a perfectly good child off to boarding school is not in my job description," she muttered. "Especially not a boarding school for freaks," "It's all right, really," Andrea said to the woman from the orphanage. " want to go," The woman was under the impression Andrea was a model child, very nice and respectful to the other kids, always minded her manners, always followed the rules. In the womans eyes, there was no finer child anywhere.
This was exactly what Andrea wanted her to think. If you talked to the other kids, they'd tell you different. Or at least, they would if they weren't so terrified of Andrea and her little sisterhood. As Andrea knew firsthand, the easiest way to get power among the adults at the orphanage was through model behavior, and the easiest way to get power among the kids was through fear. She'd achieved on both counts. Now she just had to learn how to achieve power at her new school. Suddenly she heard people talking up ahead, and looked up at the signs above her. She was standing at the barrier between platforms 7 and 8. "Leave me here," she said urgently to the woman. "What? But Ms. Mcready said I was to escort you to platform nine and three-" "I know, but please, I'd really rather you left me here. Getting onto the platform may not be as easy as it sounds." When the woman looked confused, she added "Magic, remember?" and Smiled her most innocent-looking smile. Really, she wanted to get a sense of how things worked around here and felt these people would make the perfect test subjects. "I don't know...." "Don't worry about me, I have my kitty to keep me company," Andrea smiled, pointing at the cat in the cage, which looked rather like Ms. Norris. "Please? I'll be fine, I promise," "Well...Alright. You be safe, Andrea," "Of course." The woman walked away and Andrea settled in to hear the conversation happening at the next barrier.

"I'm Ryan. I'm in Gryffindor. Oh, you probably don't know about the houses, do you? There are four, Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart, Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal, wise old Ravenclaw, where those of wit and learning will always find their kind, and Slytherin those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends. My family's all in Slytherin 'cept me and my little sister. It's her first year, too, so she hasn't been sorted, either." Ryan smiled.

"you sound like you recited that from somewhere," Nikki said, and smiled. "Actually, the woman who came to explain to my parents what was going on explained about the houses..."
Andrea cursed. That woman hadn't said anything of the sort to her! She kept listening.

"Okay, and Auntie Emelia will be there if you need any help," Hannah Hawthorn said "And we'll send owls once a week okay?" August let out an over exaggerated sign and said "Yes mom," The family was standing by the train, waiting to say goodbye to their daughter, well the father was, the mother just kept on going over the same rules "And remember, no floo powder, ever!" "Yes mom," Her mother sighed and said "You're growing up so fast," she hugged her daughter and said "You'll do great," her only response was "Bye mom," She then let go of her mother and then jumped into her fathers arms "I'll miss you daddy," Her dad hugged her, set her down and kissed her forehead. "Now go get a seat lovely, they fill up quick," The helped her move the trunk and after ten minutes she was sitting in her own compartment. She pulled ngaio out of her pocket and the lizards tongue licked her face. "We're on our way!"

Liz gazed in wonder at her first glimpse of the wizarding world. The train itself was enormous, and nothing like the regular trains at the station. She was helped off the cart by her big brother, but clung to his side, not wanting to be lost in the crowd.
"That's the Hogwarts Express," Eric explained, "The big train that takes all the kids to Hogwarts. You can ride with me and Ryan if you want."
"Ryan?" Liz echoed, "Your friend you always talk about?" Eric nodded, then a lightbulb seemed to go off over his head. He backed up several paces so that his head was sticking out of the pillar between platform 9 and 10. So he had seen Ryan!
"Hey!" called Eric. He backed up all the way, leaving Liz with the cart to stare in astonishment at the train. He clapped his pureblooded friend on the back. "What's going on?"

"That's cause I did. It was one of the sorting hat's songs a while ago. It sings a new one every year, and spends the rest of the year composing the next one. But anyway, it's good you know that much.. Where do you think you'll be sorted?" Ryan asked. He was very talkative, and he had nothing better to do while he waited for his family to move on. Just then, Beatrice took her cart and went through the barrier. "Move, mudblood!" she snapped at Liz. She pushed past, forcefully moving Liz away. "Just talking about school. This is Nikki, she's a first-year muggle-born, so she didn't know how to get onto the platform." Ryan grinned. "You?"
Violet walked slowly and uncertainly down the hall. She knew next to nothing about Hogwarts, as apparently, it was expected that she had some relative from her mother's side to tell her. No one did. So, she walked uncertainly down platform ten, wondering if platform nine and three quarters was at the end. She pushed a trolly with her owl and her trunk.

"Ow!" Nikki cried, feeling the girl hit her as she rushed by. "I think my thigh's bruised," She winced, rubbing it.
"Coming thrrrrrrooooouuuuuuggggghhhh!" yelled a voice, and a pale brown-haired boy dressed in a white long-sleeve shirt and jeans came barrelling down the hall with his trolley, the large white and brown barn owl stretching it's wings as wide as they could go in the cage in excitement. The boy turned at the last second and screeched his cart to a halt, just barely avoiding hitting anyone. Laughing, another identical boy came running down the hall with his cart almost as fast. he was more cautious, screeching to a halt several inches from the people. "Come on bro, we're drawing all the muggles eyes," he said between laughs. "Oh, come on, Tanner, so we wait a few minutes, who cares?" Wesley laughed, high fiving his identical twin brother. There was a sound of running as their parents tried to catch up. "Oh mom's soooooo going to kill us,[/i]" Tanner said worriedly. "What can she do? We're not seeing her till Christmas!" Wesley laughed loudly.

"Maybe she won't get you anything for Christmas. Do you know how awful that would be?" Violet asked quietly.

Genevieve slowly put her hand through the wall. She wasn't that surprised, she had seen it. Genevieve glanced back at two boy with a sigh. "Idiots." she said more loudly than she had meant to.

Liz looked up fearfully at the woman that seemed to shout at her. She was pushed away, the hem of her robes catching on the cart and tearing as she stumbled to the ground. Her butt hit the hard cobblestones and she gave a small "Oof!" of surprise. Her eyes filled with tears as she stayed on the ground, still looking up, too scared to move.
Eric gave a casual shrug, stepping out of the way of Beatrice. "Babysitting my little sis," he said, "Lizabeth's a wizard now, she's right through there, trying to get over all the wizards around." He looked down at Nikki and smiled. "I was in your shoes once, but I pretty much just fell through the wall. It's not too hard."
