It was pretty obvious the government was never going to beat the Gifteds. I mean, how do you destroy an entire race of people? It's been tried already. It'd already been proven it didn't work. The government's latest atttempt was just more proof. You couldn't just kill off an entire race. So the government had to get creative. Only a few years after the government/gifted war started, the goverment formally issued a statement that they surrendered. They gave Gifteds rights, and pulled back all the agents. Gifteds, some truly believing the government, and some just willing to call their bluff, moved back into towns, cities, began living normal lives. But there was a catch. It's amazing what a little propaganda can do. During the war, the government had instilled so much fear of gifteds into the population, that gifteds were still shunned by normal society. Racism against Gifteds was not only around but encouraged, and Gifteds found it hard to make a living hen nobody wanted to deal with them. Then, the governement came up with a miracle solution: A completley all-gifted town, where Gifteds could profit off other Gifteds and lead normal lives without being persecuted by the 'normal' people, and moving out was a simple process that only required some paperwork. Gifteds loved this idea, and within the year most were living in these "Gifted towns". Then the government introduced the "medicine". It was advertised as a miracle product, something that would repress bad memories and keep you happy, all the time. No more sadness or fear... and it had proven results. People saw it worked. A weekly injection, and you would never be sad again.
What people didn't see, where the other traits the medicinee intesified. naievty. Dependance on authority. overall caring about the world around them. The city accepted the drug, and all at once, the drug made them stupid, happy, and most importantly... easily controlled.
The government had done it. They couldn't destroy the Gifted population, but they contained it, tamed it, controlled it.
But there were those few, the paranoid, or extrodinarily clever, who didn't trust the government, who'd saw this as a trap from the beggining. These people never moved into town, instead living in the forests around it as if they were still on the run. They never took the drug, never associated themselves with the government traps. These people are known only as the Resistance, spoken about only as a wild rumour within the city walls. But outside, they are very real.
The Resistance are working to save the Gifteds, to let them see what the government has done. But changing the mindset of an entire city... is it possible? Can it even be done?If it can't then the Gifted race is doomed. The Reisistance is their only hope.

"Everything sucks Vi-let! Why does everything suck?" Zoey complained loudly, flipping her dirty blond hair back and biting her bubblegum pink lips, a girl who at first glance was gorgeous, on second was wearing WAAAY too much makeup. The two were in a costume shop, trying to get ready for tonights party. Today was injection day, the day everyone got their weekly dose of medicine, and the first day was always the best, so of course everyone cool would be at a party. They were supposed to show up dressed as something or someone evil from history, and nobody was going to be admitted without a really bubbly costume. "I bet everyone bought costumes WEEKS ago... thats why theres no good stuff left... should I go as that king that got his head chopped off?"

Violet let out a fast breath of air. "Are you joking, Zoey-la? He was totally fashion-missing. We need to find someone better." She fluttered her hands for effect, the ring on her index finger glinting in the artificial lighting of the shop. Violet wore very little make-up, and what she did wear was to accent her eyes. They were a strange purple color, one that had been passed down her mother's line for generations. Her eyes stood out like gemstones in the middle of cold ashes. Her pale hair didn't grab any attention, either. It was long, with bangs, but otherwise unstyled. "Like that one queen. The one who never married. The films I've seen about her were totally bubbly. Oh, what was her name??" she asked.

"Oh I dunno... if you can find a good costume around here I dunno... isn't she like, the chick blody Mary was based off of?"Zoey grumbled. "I shoulda gone and grabbed my meds BEFORE we looked, I betcha theres gonna be a long line." She sighed. "I swear, Vi-la, Life was easier when we were being hunted... wait a sec!" she jumped, her whole face lighting up. "OMG Violet, that's it! I just had an idea for the bubbliest costume EV-AR! Come on, let's go to the formal wear section." She grabbed her friend by the hand and started trying to pull her across the store.

Violet scrambled to keep her footing as Zoey pulled her by the arm. "Would you like to explain, Zoey-la? And Really, I couldn't agree more. About the meds, and the running. Gosh, why does it have to be so hard to find a costume??"

"No time. C'mere." Zoey pushed aside all the dresses, looking through the mens clothes. After a minute she found what she was looking for: two generic, black suits. "OMG it's perfect!" She laughed. "Don't you think?"

Violet frowned, confused. "Are you brain-missing, Zoey-la? What are these supposed to be?" She was starting to get an irritated headache, and she really just wanted to get the meds and go to the party.

"OMG, Zoey-la. I must be brain-missing. I didn't even realize! I'm so anxious to get the meds." Violet sighed inwardly. "I think it'll be great. And the sunglasses would be brilliant."

"We'll get them after this, I want mine too." Zoey said. "Ok, can you go ring these up for me while I find some super bubbly sunglasses?" (Note: In case people are confused talking like this is OPTIONAL. We're just doing it as an inside joke )

“Bha... What a cruddy day...” Quent muttered irritably to himself. He kicked a discarded soda can someone littered the sidewalk with, sending it flying into the street. “Lousy weather, and oh yay... A shot... Pff.” he continues walking down the street. He pauses in step after a moment, “Wait.... Why am I here?” he looks around confused, not recalling why he came this way.
A cold breeze passed through a tree he was roosting in, far from the city. He stares down at the ground below in a moping manner. His appearance seemed to mirror his attitude; dark blue pants, dark purple t-shirt, and worn black tennis shoes. His eyes are red, as if he hasn’t slept for a long while. Which is true, as he hadn’t slept for going on five days. One would guess he was depressed from coming off the ‘medication’, but that wasn’t the case. He had felt like this ever since he could remember, and it seemed to rub of on people nearby, causing them to become depressed. He has been roosting in this tree for two days, but it was still better then being around people. He uses the name Shade when asked to identify himself. In truth he doesn’t know his real name, as he had been abandoned at less then a year old.
At the ring of the bell two people popped up from behind the counter. Appearing nearly identical with powder blue hair and slate colored eyes. One is female and has longer hair then the male. The female’s name tag reads ‘Gem’ and the male’s reads ‘Nye’. “We see you are ready to check out then?” Gem says. Nye checks the item labels. “Oh, these clothes are meant for men.” he says after a moment. “But if you wish to buy, that’s very well then.” they say together in synchronization and nod smiling.

Heather sat just outside city walls, waiting. She couldn`t climb the trees, so she just sat on the ground, letting the breeze play through her mouse brown hair. She was glad the curly afro didn`t need to be brushed later - Most people got weird looks if they walked into town looking like they`d just rolled out of bed. Not that she was going to the party later - She wasn`t - but the druggies on the outskirts were co-operative. They wouldn`t turn her in, at least. Though how she was going to convince THEM to come off the medicine was anyones guess.
Unlike most, Heather had never lived in town, or even considered it. She'd learnt how corrupt the goverment still was early on, when she'd gone to a government building in New York only two weeks after the offical surrender. "Excuse me," she said, feigning politness to the man at the desk. "I'm looking for someone. I think you guys'll know where he is, he went to St. Jamestone," The guy at the desk looked up. "You're that Heather girl, aren't you?" He said, nervously shuffling through paperwork. Heather was pleased to note he couldn't help looking around nervously. The building was mostly metal, a place where Heather, as a metal-bender, had a clear advantage if it came to a fight. Not that it would. "Mr. Ennis is upsatirs working," The man said, not looking at her. "Working?" Heather immeaditley understood the implications in the word. "When're you taking him out of the Program, if it hasn't been done yet?" Another man came out from the elevator behind the desk, just in time to hear Heathers question. He laughed. "Heather, Heather Heather," he said in an annoyingly patronizing tone. "You insist you've changed, but I still see the same nieve girl who walked into St. Jamestone" Heather recognized him, the former "Principal" of the school. But she was determined not to let his snide comments affect her. "But we won right? You have to treat us as people now! The Program needs to be shut down! That's how the whole surrender thing was supposed to work! You know I know what went on at that school!" "You know it, yes, but tell me something Heather: Who else knows it?" he laughed "Sure, we're not allowed to work any more towards our goal of destroying all you Gifteds, but you know what? There was nothing in the offical surrender that requires us to give back anything we've taken. That includes the Gifteds we've still got, sorry. Now scram," "Why, you little...." Heather glared at him, accessing her other power, the one that would let her knock anyone out instantly if she stared into their eyes for a minute. 1... 2...3...4... "Oh. I don't think you want to do that," he grinned. "Even though you're considered a citizen now, I'm afraid assault is still assault... you'd be sent to jail. And I wonder what kind of backlash against gifteds THAT would create?" Heather knew he was right. He had her backed into a corner. They had Jared and she couldn't do a damn thing about it. She felt so angry and helpless. She turned and stalked out, pausing at the door. "I'd only be going to juvie, smartass. Think about THAT," She walked out the door.
When heather had heard about the Gifted towns, it sounded suspiciously like a ghetto, or a quarantine. She hadn't gone in, fully expectin them to pull some sort of slimeball move like they had with Jared. And then the medicine was introduced, confirming her worst fears. She'd joined the resistance not long after that.

Violet smiled charmingly. "I know, it's for a costume party we're going to. I'd still like to get them," she said.
Kumair paced through the trees. Like Heather, Kumair had never lived in one of the cities. But for an entirely different reason. He had never suspected the government, even though in postsight, he supposed he should have. He simply didn't like being in a city, preferring to stay 'on the run'. Even among Gifteds, like himself, he was still disliked. For his power, and because it wasn't rare knowlege that he had betrayed them. When the government caught him, he changed sides. They didn't have to do so much as hit him, either. As soon as the cuffs went on, he changed. He was too much of a self preservist to stay loyal, even to his friends. Now, he finally came to regret it. He was still trying to find the city Katia was in, without luck. He knew by this point that the city he was helping wasn't it. Still, there were other people who needed his help just as much, if not more. He had no idea the state Katia was in, or even if she was still alive.
