Caroline stared after her for a minute, thinking she was crazy, until she realized the logic behind it. She followed suit and took one of the guns.

"Very good," The voice said as Laura looked for a way to get back up to the door. "You are now in possession of the Apeture Science Handheld Portal Device. With it, you can create your own portals. These inter-dimensional gates have proven to be completely safe. The Device, however, has not.
Do not touch the operational end of the Device.
Do not look directly at the operational end of the Device.
Do not submerge the Device in liquid, even partially.
Most importantly, under no circumstances should you-" The voice cut off just then, into a buzzing sound that slowly died.
Laura looked alarmed.

Caroline's eyes widened. "Should we what?" she whispered, then aimed the gun and shot at the wall.

The portal opened on the white wall. It was clear by looking through it it would lead them back onto the ledge where the orange portal, and the door, was.
Laura grinned and went through the portal and the door, but stopped, looking nervous to pass though the Emancipation Grid. She couldn`t get out of her head what the female robotic voce had said about possibly losing everything in your mouth.

Laura bit her lip worriedly. She wished she could form the worry into clear words, but she could barely do it in her own head. She needed their help. She stepped through the Emancipation Grid and into the elevator. The elevator rose.
They were in a simple, wide room... with a ten foot drop one way. They wer wearing some sort of brace on their legs to prevent them from hurting themselves no matter how far they fell, but they wouldn't be able to climb out if they fell in. On the other side of the room (or maybe it wasn't the other side... it turned off at a sharp corner) there was an orange portal.
Laura shrugged. This looked easy enough.

Caroline shot a portal nearby, then one across the room.

((portal gun only has one portal capability so far, the orange portal's on the other side of the room. I alredy said this...))
the first portal dissappeared when she shot the second. Laura shot a portal onto the ground and jumped through, coming out of the orange one on the other side of the gap. she waved Caroline through from across the room.
It was clear now, this was not the end of the room. around the corner was another ten-foot-deep gap, and on the other side of the gap was the door. The orange portal did not move.
