Alright, so it's been brought to my attention that I'm one of the minority here that uses the Japanese names, and the majority find it strange, or so it seems. So I want to know; how many of you use the Japanese names (Raito, Eru, Nia) vs. the English names (Light, L, Near)? I'm not asking about name order or actual names vs. code names, just this. xD
And if you really don't care, there's a fifth option just for you. <3

We use the English names. Because we all speak English. Plus, Light is an awesomer name, L is epic, and Nia sounds like a girl.

I use the English names, though I'm more accustomed to the Japanese names. (sub > dub)
Unless the English name sounds completely idiotic, I'll always use the English version, because it's my native tongue.

I chose Japanese names because they sound new and exotic. We all hear about English and American (yes, I belive American should be it's own launguage) names. Japanese names are diverse compared to english names. So you can get more custom names than english. Light sounds like the ray of light. Raito sounds unique.

Yes, but you can't poke fun at the name Raito like you can Light, it takes L's fire.
"I can't imagine a world without Light" "Yes, it would be very dark."

@raven: I actually find that to be more annoying than anything, considering that it makes for misinterpretations. For the viewers that know English, they know that ‘Raito’ is just a Japanese pronunciation of Light, so they can derive the same meaning without the confusion. I also find 'Light' to be distracting from the character. I mean this in the same way I find it annoying to talk about a person with the first name ‘Yu’ (See: Persona) in English, as saying ‘I love/hate Yu’ can lead to mass misinterpretation and a general delay of the topic at hand. - u-;; /probablyjustbitter

I agree with Icara. I like the Japanese names more, but I use the english names, mostly because I happen to speak English.

I actually don't watch Death Note. Or read it. Don't shoot me plz. Anyway, I like use the English versions of anime/manga names because I can't pronounce Japanese names without feeling like an otaku wannabe. XD But I do like subs better than dubs.
