The date is September 21, 2050
The world hasn't changed to much. Technological advances have been concentrated on pleasure, smaller computers, music devices just being stored in the head phones used to listen, but nothing really life changing. Though there are many new technology Wammy House has stayed almost the same as it was thirty years ago, most technology seen as a distraction to the students. In the year 2035, Rodger dies of a heart attack after watching one of his student die. As soon as he died there was a new person in charge of Wammy. The called him C and at the time it seemed like he would follow Rodger's footsteps. Instead this man brought down much stricter rules on Wammy. No leaving the grounds, extended school year, longer school days, all little things that made the school more stressful, but to the world just a higher success rate from "L".
This new world very much follows Kira's plan, crime continuously going down, that is, less recidivists for they are usually killed after the first crime. Still, larger criminals, serial killers and just plain psychopaths are the targets of Wammy's for they are the criminals that Kira fails to get. Wammy house still "investigates" Kira, but there is really no proof to catch him.
The town around Wammy's is practically fallen apart. When the Recession hit in 2043 small towns seemed to fall off the map, being abandoned even after the economy improved. The town is usually filled with older couples who didn't want to leave, though almost all business was gone.
