Millford's Assylum for Troubled Youths

"Wonderful. Shall we go, then?" the nurse asked.

Hilary nodded. "Yes, let's go,"

The nurse led her to the room and they entered just before the following scene.

The nurse had to use her hands to stabilize herself.
Max had tears in her eyes. "It was horrible."
"You were shouting a name. Kenny. How do you know him?"
Max looked up at her. "He's my brother."
"Who was he hurting?"
Max bit her lip before replying. "Our parents and Adam." Her eyes swam in tears.
"Who's Adam?"
"Kenny's twin."
The nurse frowned. That kid really was messed up. "What happened?"
"I was just looking. I didn't mean to break it. Kenny didn't care. He came at me with his knife." Max's eyes were wide. "Adam tried to protect me, but Kenny hardly gave it a second thought and... He killed Adam because of me! Our parents heard me scream. Mom called 911 and Dad came in to see what was happening. He got in the way of Kenny, too. When she was done talking, Mom also came in, to see Kenny stab Dad." She was crying now. "When the police finally got there, Dad was dead, Adam was just about dead, Mom was dying from a slash across her belly... Mom had been going to have another baby! There was blood everywhere. The police stopped Kenny from killing me, too, but I had already received a few cuts... It was less than I deserved! It was all my fault!"
"When was this?"
"Three years ago. Kenny was 15, I was 12." Max was sobbing.

Kendal listened curiously to the exchange between the girl and the nurse. His fingers tightened their grip on his arms, opening healing wounds. The phrase "blood everywhere" made him hungry for some reason. He looked down at the girl, and tilted his head, running his tongue lazily across the thin bars of his mask.

[Gifted]

Judith was surprised. She wanted to comfort the little girl, but she didn't know how. "No mary," she murmured, barely loud enough for the nurse to hear. Then she went to the little girls side. "It wasn't your faullt," she comforted. "You didn't mean any harm,"

Sabina mumbled to herself "Sounds like I could get along with this Kenny guy......."

Max glared up at the girl. "It doesn't matter, I was doing like everyone had told me not to. Besides," she added miserably, "if it weren't my fault, they would have come to see me. They haven't. Ryan did, when I thought his death was my fault, but they haven't. Ever. They're letting me know it was my fault."

Judith looked up curiously at the nurse, not understanding what Max meant by that. "I'm sure that can't be the only reason they wouldn't come..." she said anyway. Judith really hated to see people cry.

[Raven]

"She thinks she sees ghosts," the nurse mouthed. "Oh? And why wouldn't they come? No one else has ever had trouble. Ryan says he can't think of a reason they wouldn't be able to come, only that they wouldn't want to," Max said.

[Gifted]

"Maybee they don't want to for a different reason," She said, nodding that she understood the nurse. "Maybe they're scared. Can Kenny see them?" Then she closed her eyes, shook her head vigorously, and opened them again.

They could be alive, postulated Kendal, looking down at the ghost-seer, But they probably aren't... He tilted his head, and slid to the floor, shakily putting a comforting hand on Max's shoulder. His fingers twitched with excitement and nervousness when he touched her; the last time Kendal laid his hands on someone, it was a nurse, and he was clawing them.

W-wonder what she tastes like. Hmm...

"Not that I know of. Besides, he's not here," Max said, glancing at Kendal.

The nurse was boring him so he slowly crawled out of her lap and looked at Sabina, deciding to wrap himself around her now.

[Raven]

"Kartala," the nurse murmured sternly, "be good."

[Gifted]

"Well then there must be some other reason. They can't blame you for something you didn't do on purpose," Judith said. she closed her eyes again and clenched her fists. "No," Mary," She said quietly but firmly.
