Max tilted her head and watched Kartala. "So, if not because you see them, why are you here?" she asked him.

Kartala looked at her and spoke again," I'm not sure why, I like it here though...but sometimes.. I have bad days." He looked at the nurses for a second.

The nurses smiled reassuringly. "Hmmm... I see spirits. They talk to me. I don't know why no one else sees them," Max said. "But I suppose that's why I'm here."

Kartala twitched and looked around the room, his eyes were beady," You know there's so much white in these rooms, maybe they should redecorate and add some beautiful crimson red." He looked back at Max and continued," What do you think, friend?"

Max did her best to shrug in the jacket. "I don't know. Red is a very pretty color, but it's almost as hard to see them with red as it is with white. Maybe that's why they did this. They don't want me to see them." She glared at the nurses.

Kartala licked the grate on his mask, pressing against it and cutting it slightly with a bladed tooth. He let the blood drip onto the ground and spoke,"It is a lovely color isn't it?"

Max closed her eyes. Her memories - were they really her memories? - took over her and she fought the urge to scream. She shivered violently.

After Max closed her eyes, Kartala got closer and if her eyes were open there would have been about and inch between their faces.

Max was totally ridged. She watched the visions in her mind. "Kenny! Don't!" she screamed.

The nurses exchanged glances. Was it the same man? The nurse closest to Max tried to sooth her. "Don't let him! He'll kill them!" Max screamed, shaking badly.

Kartala's eyes seemed to go back to normal and he inched over to the nurse, being near the other person didn't seem like a good idea.

That nurse knelt to Kartala. "I believe she is related to another person who stays here," she told him. "She's remembering something about him."

Kartala nodded and watched the scene from the safety of being under the nurse wearing her clean white dress.

After a while, Max, still shaking uncontrollably, stopped screaming and slowly opened her eyes. It had been her memory. "What were you seeing?" asked the nurse. "I was remembering..." Max shook her head, not wanting to answer.
