The Innocent Murders

[Gifted]

Brittany looked at the man who'd spoken to her. He seemed relitivley normal. huh. Maybe his felony was minor, like hers. Assault, robbery, maybe just and overnighter on a DUI charge. Or carrying a concealed weapon, or... well the possibilities were nearly endless, but he did't seem as phsycho as the others. "No I don't mind, go ahead," she said, moving over a bit so he could sit down.

[Raven]

Alaric sat beside her, smiling slightly. "I'm Alaric, by the way," he said.

[Gifted]

"Brittany," she replied. "So what're you in this hole for? and how long?" she asked.

[Raven]

"Mostly destruction of property, concealed weapons charge. Nothing big. Four and a half to twelve and a half years, and I've completed two," Alaric said conversationally. "You?"

[Gifted]

"I've been here two weeks. I'm not in for anything big either, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of armed robbery," she shrugged. "They tried to pin murder on me too, but I was deemed innocent in the eyes of the law. Not that these stupid guards seem to care. I'm in for six years,'

[Raven]

"As far as the pigs are concerned, we may as well all be on death row," Alaric said.

[Gifted]

"Exactly. Hauling us in for every little thing that goes on here... you hear about the murders of those six inmates the other night?" she asked. "That was creepy... the guards are worried about it, of course, but I was hauled in for questioning for like two hours straight! Just because I'm here!" She shook her head.

[Raven]

"Yeah... When it comes to that kind of thing, no one's safe from suspicion, I suppose." Alaric sighed. "It's even possible that one of the guards did it."

[Gifted]

"Yeah, but I bet that thought never crossed any of the guards minds.." she said. "Damn hypocrites..."

[Raven]

"Except perhaps the one who did it," Alaric pointed out. "Personally, it seems more likely they could do it that we could. They aren't locked in cells."

[Gifted]

"Exactly! How the heck would we get not only out of our own cells, but into six other cells when they're all locked and there is a guard sleeping in front of them! Either this person is damn good with locks, it's a guard who did it or at the very least they have a guard as an accomplice. Why cant the police see that and leave us alone? If we were murderers or people with long criminal records I could understand, but.." She trailed off. "This is just stupid,"

[Raven]

"And supposedly, the murderers have higher security than any of us."

[Gifted]

"Um, well duh! if there was going to be a break out who would you want to break out, the robbers and property-destroyers, or the murderers and meth dealers?" she gve a laugh that sounded false in her own ears. "But it's just one more reason it's probably a guard behind this, hows a murderer gonna get out of the high security area and kill 6 more people?"

[Raven]

Alaric shrugged. "Maybe we have a psychotic Houdini," he suggested. "Or someone who wasn't caught at murder."

When Alaric mentioned someone who wasn't caught at murder, Brittany looked nervously over her shoulder at the phsycho who'd been talking about birds. she remembered him telling that other girl, "137 put to sleep under this bird's wings they have no clue about," he'd said. Somehow, she didn't think he meant "put to sleep" literally.
